Empowering the Turkish Youth Sector: GreenComm Dissemination Seminar in Izmir

As part of our ongoing mission to combat climate disinformation across Europe, the GreenComm project successfully held its regional dissemination seminar in Izmir, Turkey. Hosted by our partner EFTA, the event brought together 18 targeted professionals, including active youth workers, NGO representatives, and digital media creators, to discuss the future of environmental communication.

Introducing the “Green Newsroom” to Turkey The Izmir seminar focused on transitioning local youth organizations from general climate awareness to professional, data-driven advocacy. During the event, EFTA introduced the “Green Newsroom” methodology-a core output of the GreenComm project designed to help organizations build scientifically accurate and greenwashing-resistant communication strategies.

The 18 participating professionals were given an in-depth presentation of the GreenComm ecosystem, with a special focus on:

  • The EQF Level 5 Curriculum: Demonstrating how the training modules elevate standard media literacy into a specialized vocational skill for the green economy.

  • Forensic Media Analysis: Practical discussions on how to trace the scientific integrity of climate news and utilize real-world datasets, such as IPCC reports.

  • Turkish Language Access: A key moment of the seminar was showcasing the fully localized Turkish version of the MOOC platform and the Practitioner’s Toolkit, ensuring seamless integration into local youth work practices.

Engagement and Local Impact The interactive sessions allowed the 18 attendees to test the platform live. The feedback was highly encouraging; participants highlighted the necessity of having structured, open-access tools to identify corporate greenwashing and navigate the complexities of digital eco-activism. Many organizations expressed a strong interest in utilizing the GreenComm automated certification system for their internal staff training.

A Step Forward for Regional VET The active engagement of 18 dedicated professionals in Izmir is a testament to the relevance of the GreenComm project in Turkey. By equipping local youth workers with advanced digital and environmental competencies, we are setting a new standard for climate advocacy in the region.
